Rams men’s hockey 2014-15 schedule released

TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams men’s hockey schedule for the 2014-15 season was released by Ontario University Athletics (OUA) on Monday and sees the Rams starting the season on the road against the York Lions on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.

Ryerson will play its home opener on Oct. 9 against the Laurentian Voyageurs at 7:30 p.m. at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

The 28-game schedule was released for all 10 teams in the OUA West with Ryerson playing 19 of their games against division opponents.

Last season, Ryerson finished the regular season in third place in their division with a program-best 17-11-0 record.

The Rams were able to get out on the right foot last year, starting October with a 5-3 record. In 2014-15, they face tough competition in the first month of play going on the road to face the reigning regular season division champion Western Mustangs on Oct. 16. They return home two days later (Oct. 18) to play the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year in the second round, the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

On Nov. 7, the Rams host the Windsor Lancers, the defending Queen’s Cup champions. The last time the two teams played was in the last game of the regular season in 2013-14, when Ryerson defeated them 4-3.

The next weekend sees Ryerson wrap up four of five games at home with CIS rookie of the year Kevin Bailie and the Queen’s Gaels coming into the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Nov. 14.

Nov. 21 will see the Rams head to Quebec for the first of two road trips to La Belle Province facing the always tough McGill Redmen on the Friday night before playing the Ottawa Gee-Gees the next evening.

The first half of the season ends against the Brock Badgers on Nov. 29, a team that Ryerson defeated to advance in the playoffs last season.

The second half begins just over a month later on Jan. 3 when Ryerson hosts the Guelph Gryphons at 2:30 p.m.

The next weekend Ryerson hits the road for its second Quebec road trip, this time against the UQTR Patriotes and Concordia Stingers. After that, Ryerson will return home for four straight games on home ice.

On the last weekend of play in January, the Rams will travel up the subway line to play rival Toronto Varsity Blues in the Downtown Showdown on Jan. 27 at 11 a.m.

Their last weekend of regular season play starts on Feb. 5 when Ryerson hosts the York Lions at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to Windsor the next day for a match with the Lancers.

The OUA playoffs will begin on February 11 with the Queen’s Cup championship game scheduled for March 7. The 2015 CIS University Cup will be hosted in March at the Halifax Metro Centre in a joint bid by Saint Mary’s University Huskies and St. Francis Xavier X-Men.
