Rams open second half with win at Laurier

WATERLOO, Ont. – Domenic Alberga scored his team leading 14th goal of the season to help the Ryerson Rams defeat the Laurier Golden Hawks, 3-1 on Friday night.

Alberga (Maple, Ont.) scored at 7:45 of the first period to get the scoring started at the Sun Life Arena in Waterloo, Ont.

Third-year forward Mitch Gallant (Charlottetown, PEI) followed suit two minutes later with his seventh of the season to give Ryerson a 2-0 lead.

The lead would be trimmed to one before the period was over. James Marsden scored his first of the season for Laurier at 13:57 and it was 2-1 after one period.

Daniel Lombardi (Richmond Hill, Ont.) added an insurance marker late in the second period, scoring shorthanded and was assisted by Jamie Wise (Stouffville, Ont.).

Troy Passingham (Mississauga, Ont.) recorded his fifth win of the season in net for the Rams. Passingham made 31 saves and was solid all evening for Ryerson. Duncan Long suffered the loss, making 23 saves.

Ryerson failed to score on its only powerplay opportunity while Laurier went scoreless on three attempts.

The win gives the Rams 22 points on the year, putting them in a three-way tie for second place in the OUA West. Ryerson (11-5) hits the ice again on Saturday evening against the host Windsor Lancers (11-5) at the WFCU Centre. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
